Welcome aboard the Anne Marie Houseboat

The Anne Marie is the oldest of all the houseboats along the quay at Burnham-on-Crouch and might be the oldest in the UK. She has been berthed on the River Crouch since 1948 when she was first converted from a WW2 fuel/water barge into a houseboat. She was given the name 'Anne Marie' after the granddaughter of the original owner and her photo still hangs on the wall.

Many changes have been made to the design of the Anne Marie in the last 68 years and she is still evolving.  In 2006, she was completely emptied and has been fully refurbished. As far as possible, the original designs, timbers and fittings were kept, including the Australian rubberwood ceiling beams.

Many people in Burnham remember living onboard throughout the years and we get many visitors with fond memories of her.

The Anne Marie is an amazing place to live with stunning wildlife, ever changing scenery, large skies and the busy river to entertain us.
